Stephen B. Luce Library Government Documents Research Guide

picture fdlp eagleStephen B. Luce Library is a Federal Depository Library of U.S. Government Documents. The library selects 333 items, representing approximately 2,400 documents annually. With an emphasis on maritime related documents, items received include nautical charts, sailing directions, and U.S. Coast Guard and Marine Administration (MARAD) publications.

Locating Government Documents at Stephen B. Luce Library

Government documents are located on the 1st floor of the library past the information desk in the first well. There is also an office in this area containing government publications such as the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Some governement documents are also located in Ready Reference such as nautical charts (see Reference Librarian) or in the history collection.

Locating Government Documents in the Catalog Sextant

To locate government documents in the Sextant catalog perform a keyword search on your topic and refine your search with the author "United States." Another way to search is to perform an advance search. Type in your keyword or topic, under "Limit search to" use the drop down arrow under "More Collections" and choose "Government Documents 1st Floor". If you perform a search and do not specify the collection you can click on an item from your results list and look at the Collection designation to see if it is a government document or not.
