Location:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) is located in Kingsbridge on Van Cortlandt South near the junction of Broadway.

Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) is a popular large playground in Kingsbridge. There are two parts to the playground: one for ages 2-5 and the other for ages 5-12.
One smaller playground for ages 2-5 is a totally enclosed playground with gates; the other part for ages 5-12 is not totally enclosed.
Van Cortlandt Park is aimed at toddlers, preschoolers, and young children.

Swing equipment:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) has two sets of swings for a total of nine swings.
To the rear of the park's entrance, there are: three full bucket molded plastic infant swings and two leather belt children swings.
To the front of the park's entrance, there are: four leather belt children swings.

Climbing equipment:
There are three climbing frames at Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground). The first two climbing frames are located in the playground for ages 5-12.

There is a climbing frame to front of the park's entrance. There are openings in the climbing frame so children may fall off. It is designed for ages 6-12.
The climbing frame has two steps to it and six graduated steps on it; a seven-foot high spiral slide; a five-foot high double straight slide;
a three-foot straight slide; a swinging curved bridge; an arched bridge; a ramp;
a fireman's pole; two sets of four-step vertical ladders; an eleven-step loop ladder;
a five-step swinging ladder; a three-step ladder; a one-step vertical ladder; a horizontal bar;
a six-foot high overhead horizontal ladder or monkey bars; a six-foot high overhead bridge with six hanging triangles;
a six-foot high overhead loop ladder; and a four-foot high overhead horizontal ladder or monkey bars.
NOTE: None of the equipment is wheelchair accessible or meets ADA guidelines.

There is a separate climbing frame in the smaller playground for ages 2-5. There are openings in the climbing frame so children may fall off. It is designed for ages 2-5.
The climbing frame has three graduated steps on it; a two-foot high infant slide; an arched bridge; a ramp;
a three-step ladder; a one-step vertical ladder; mirrors, four steering wheels; and a chime reach panel.
NOTE: None of the equipment is wheelchair accessible or meets ADA guidelines.

Sandbox:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) does not have a sandbox.

Shading and park surface:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) has about 65% shade. Van Cortlandt Park has an asphalt surface with black rubber safety mats under the climbing equipment
and swings in the playground for ages 5-12, but has a red and black rubber safety mat surface in the playground for ages 2-5.

Facilities:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) has a sprinkler, a water fountain, and plenty of park benches but no restrooms. The sprinkler and water fountain are located in the playground for ages 5-12.
The closest restrooms are located under the stadium a few yards away or at the 242nd Street Comfort Station.

Local features:
Van Cortlandt Park (Southwest Playground) is a large playground. Van Cortlandt Park is one of the flagship parks for New York City. Van Cortlant Park has a pool for free public use during the summer,
a golf course, and cross country trails. Soccer, baseball, football, Gaelic hurling, lacross, cricket, and other sports are regularly played here. Free wifi access is also available.
