A European-style coffee shop, FIKA offers strong pulls of espresso or expertly foamed cappuccinos. Pastries are best avoided.

All hot beverages are served with a free gourmet chocolate! The cafes also feature the range of Leonida's chocolates, as well as pastries and sandwiches, and serve Illy espresso.

Evening

Mad Dog and Beans 50 Stone St

Strong margaritas and outdoor seating make Mad Dog and Beans a popular place to start the weekend. Also serves a good selection of Mexican beers and a complete food menu.

Mad Dog and Beans

Ulysses 58 Stone St

Touted in 2005 by New York Magazine as the best bar at which to pick up a stockbroker, Ulysses is a close of business gathering point for many of Wall Street's workers. A DJ supplies music until closing time on nights when live music isn't booked, and the bar food is excellent. Also offers a Sunday brunch buffet.

Whitehorse Tavern: 25 Bridge St, 212.668.9046

A little grittier than the Stone Street bars, Whitehorse Tavern is generally full of regulars. But the excellent jukebox selection, friendly bartenders and happy hour prices make it the ideal low-key destination.

Wall & Water 75 Wall St

For a fancy cocktail or upscale glass of wine, the first floor of the Andaz Wall Street is the destination du jour. Happy hour keeps prices reasonable from 5 - 7 p.m. Otherwise expect to pay a premium for your premium beverage.

Fresh Salt 146 Beekman St

Small and dimly lit, Fresh Salt is an unexpected find in the cobblestones of the South Street Seaport. Great sandwiches accompany a solid beer selection. Also serves a delicious Sunday brunch.

Fraunces Tavern 54 Pearl St

If you like your beer with a side of history, Fraunces Tavern is your best bet. It was built in 1719 and is best known as the site where George Washington bade farewell to the officers of the Contintental Army in 1783. Note: The restaurant is currently closed as new management moves in, but the museum is open.
