Five Neons

2000

Book installation

The neons are about counting - that which can and cannot be quantified - numbers that hold the key to life and death, catalyzed by the Staircase of Death in Mauthausen labor camp, Austria. As I walked down these stairs, I counted the steps. 186. When I walked up I counted them again. - 186 steps... with 50 kilos of granite on my back?
