Morning Prayer 1

1997
Flax paper, stones, tea, human hair, cuttings from a prayer book, gold filament thread, safety pins
6" x 6" x 10"
Series of 2

An unbound artist book with skin-like pages that are scratched and pierced, and embedded with detritus, 'Morning Prayer' focuses on the unacceptable misogyny that is part of Judaism. The sewn text refers to the men's portion of the Jewish 'Morning Prayer,' where the man recites: "Blessed art Thou, our Lord our God, King of the universe, who hast not made me a woman."
