empyrean

phenomenon

the skies hold more than planets and stars. there are many observable phenomena that are not just visible to, but are best viewed by the naked eye.

meteor showers

the most spectacular are the perseids every august and the geminids every december. consult this calendar to know which days to expect a show.

aurora

visible between 65 and 72 degrees north or south latitudes. these light displays are from interactions between the sun's solar wind and the earth's magnetic field.

zodiacal light

a cone of light soars up from the horizon along the ecliptic. there can be no light pollution or moon in the sky for this to be visible.

gegenschein

with a similar effect as the zodiacal light, the gegenschein requires no light interference from cities or the moon to be seen.
