Good morning all you bright-eyed bibliophiles!!

We had a very nice get together last night, hosted by Scott who slaved over the Patsy's menu and decided on some pasta and yummy bread dipped in olive oil. Deeelish!!

Scott almost made a serious faux pas when he mentioned (prior to the meeting), that "I didn't get any dessert, you don't think they'll mind, do you?" Yeah, right!!! Maybe if it was an all male book club! Chicks need sweets!!! Off he went for ice cream. Phew!! It could have been ugly.

It seemed that the future of this book will meet the same demise as Martin Dressler. The question was asked...how did this win the Pulitzer Prize? Even better, what are the criteria for the Pulitzer Prize? Last night we each gave the book a score based on a scale of one to ten, we also rated The Corrections. I forgot the scores at home, but Martin Dressler probably averaged a 6 and The Corrections averaged an 8.

Kathryn has graciously accepted the task of looking up the various prizes available in the book world and writing out what each requires so we have some basis of understanding here. In addition, she will create a spreadsheet to include each of our books and our own ratings of each book for comparison.

Kathryn had spreadsheets on the brain last night. At one point she was preparing a giant spreadsheet that included all of the above, the ratings of all of our books, the list of endangered species in the Amazon and what their favorite books are, the list of every President and what was on the NY Times Bestseller list at the time they held office, and somehow this was all related to her ex-lovers and friends and how they are all tied to Kevin Bacon. We had to tie her down and limit her to one so she could still keep her day job.

Member updates....we bid a fond farewell to Annie (Mary's sister), whose fiance has returned from his tour of duty and will finally make an honest woman of her...... We also bid a fond farewell to Trish who has moved to Connecticut for her dream job and her honey.....Andy has left for Nepal and his quest to summit Everest. We expect him back in this country sometime in June although we are not certain if it will be NYC......Mark is in San Francisco for a couple of months writing for the Rough Guide. We should see him in May.....Rob is here, but we're not quite sure where.....Christina is due back in New York sometime soon. Welcome back Christina!!! Let us know when we will see you again.

The next book club will be hosted by Drew on April 30th. Please mark the date in your calendar (especially those of you who have already missed two in a row). Drew should be sending an e-mail out today with the selections for vote.

Sorry about the length of this e-mail. Have a great day!!!!
