Hello, book clubbers,

I'm sorry to tell you that last night's meeting had a very sad, almost tragic conclusion: Fearless Leader and I, Fearless Sweetie, who have been of one mind regarding all things book club, are parting ways--citing irreconcilable differences regarding Atonement. We remain friends and see no change to book club. I know this must be very troubling to everyone, self included, but I think we're strong enough to make it through until we might agree again.

Thanks to Jeanne for hosting in her fantastic apartment! While we were all impressed with the wreathes and the free table offer, book club was generally most impressed by the TV in the elevator, except for Scott who was dismayed to see the channel stuck on NY1. We welcomed Tom "The Gaz" back, but unfortunately his intern didn't have time to read the book. FL tells us that Drew has started his own company and thus may be missing for a long, long time. Drew, we will all wear yellow ribbons to book club until you return.

On to the book, everyone generally liked Atonement, giving the book a rating of about 7-7.5. FL gave the book a 3, FS an 11, which suspiciously average out to a 7. The most enthusiastic areas of discussion included first, "THE WORD" which even my most creative, Shakespearean ways cannot figure how to get through corporate firewalls. But you know what I mean. Second, Cecelia and Robbie getting' it on in the library. Hilary, despite her absence, was invoked several times during this discussion. Consensus: we love the library.

The discussion inspired Laura to finish the book. Go Laura!

FL was outright en fuego and up against fierce opposition, namely, everyone else. Face it, FL, you were just wrong here. This was best illustrated by Nancy who sternly responded, "No Chris, I really disagree." Go see "The Matrix" and feel better. Also highly discussed was FL's new commitment to the Atkins Diet. Chris, we're pretty sure that you'd be a lot less delusional (really now, 3?) if you'd just had one of the key lime cookies. How much weight do you have to lose before we can call you "Steve"?

Another hot topic: The Bachelor, Are You Hot, Married By America, and Mr. Personality. Book club loves "reality" TV! One of Laura's sorority sisters got left at the altar on Married By America. Matt cleverly noted that the Firestone wine was better than he expected after seeing Firestone Jr. on TV. I believe that Marshall, candy magnate, would have fared exceptionally poorly in all shows.

Next month's meeting will be hosted by Hilary at FS's abode on June 10th. Hilary, we need a book selected by Friday, short and paperback, please.

Happy reading,
FS
