House pre-1920's

In 1854, Samuel B. Shannon bought eight acres of land and built a farmhouse on the property. We believe that the original farmhouse had the kitchen outside. Sometime before the 1920's the kitchen was added (wing to the viewer's left).

Dr. Christopher Stapleton and his wife, Alice Stepple Stapleton, bought the house in 1924 and added a living room (called the Great Room) and dining room. (Wing added to right; not shown in this photo.)

Alice Stepple Stapleton called the house "Twin Oaks." Unfortunately, the oak trees that inspired the name were lost in a strong wind in the 1950's.

In 1960, Alice Stapleton Walls named the house "The Snuggery." The Walls family sold the house to the Malverne Historical & Preservation Society in 1995.
