Poetry: Imagery

Imagery is using descriptive language that evokes one or more of the senses.

Exercise: Ode to Senses

Agree on a season, life event, or place to write about. Each of you should spend two minutes listing all the words associated with that topic that cover each of the senses. Now look at both of your lists. Exclude any repeated words from the joint poem you write. Try to keep your lines short and include words that evoke strong images. You may also want to experiment with breaking up the poem into couplets or four line stanzas.
