Biography of Christina McCabe

Christina McCabe is a highly skilled artisan with the imagination of a child, looking at art as if in water.

McCabe studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the first art school in America (circa 1850). Always intrigued by the history of art, she traveled to Italy to continue her studies in painting.

Inspired by the Italian Renaissance and the Persian miniature, Christina McCabe brings a modern touch to the old world charm of miniature paintings through her imagination and art form. Miniature painting involves a delicate and tedious brushwork that captures under close scrutiny the imagination of the viewer. There is no vague usage of the term miniature with her work. Her watercolor pictures are 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches or smaller.

Miniature paintings have a jewel-like quality to them, so it should come as no suprise that McCabe is also a fine jeweler. To imply that painting the miniature would be following a thread or the perfect continuum would be correct. This new medium is a revival of McCabe's work, and she is enjoying its challenge and mystery.
