Ceremonies & Rites Of Passage

Like all people of faith, Unitarian Universalists honor events of great significance in the life cycle with religious observances. Our theological diversity, our emphasis upon the day-to-day realities of each life stage, and our belief that values are best expressed through the deeds of our living, combine to grant us unique gifts when crafting the rituals that mark our most meaningful days.

Ceremonies of Naming and Dedication
Naming and Dedication services are held for infants and small children to honor and celebrate a new life coming into our world. This is a time for the gathered family and friends to dedicate themselves to the support of the child throughout his or her life-journey.

Wedding and Commitment Ceremonies
Unitarian Universalists celebrate the commitment of life-long partnership and honor the transformative power of love through the celebration of Wedding Ceremonies and Commitment Ceremonies for same gender couples. Unitarian Universalist wedding and commitment ceremonies are crafted by the couple in close collaboration with the minister. The hope is to craft a service which uniquely reflects the couple’s vision of their relationship and their hopes for a shared future.

Memorial and Funeral Services
In Memorial and Funeral services we hope to honor and celebrate the fullness of a life now gone from our midst. We seek to craft a service that is both meaningful and comforting for the bereaved and which stays true to the life of the deceased.

Whether or not you are currently involved with a Unitarian Universalist congregation, if you are in the New York area and would like more information about having a service or rite of passage performed, please feel free to contact me.

"Life is a mission.....religion, science, philosophy, though still at variance upon many points, all agree on this, that every existence is an aim." - Giuseppe Mazzini
