Library's Virtual Reference Services

Instant Messaging Service is very similar to the chat service. The difference is that the users do not need to fill out a questionnaire form to ask a question. The interface is built in on the library's homepage. The users just need to type in their question in the "Type here..." box or click on the icon to start the session. The IM session would stays on as long as the user does not close it. Because the users do not need to enter any personal information, the transcript will not be generated for them when the session is over. This service is target for simple question such as "Do I need to pre-register for the Basic MS-Word event?"

Arlington Heights Memorial Library

On their homepage, in the Contact Us section, when the users click on the Chat 24/7 link, the ASK US! window will opened up. The session will start after they click on the Send icon.
