A BRIEF HISTORY OF MOUNT PLEASANT

In 1988 the Town of Mount Pleasant celebrated its Bicentennial. In recognition of the town's milestone Vincent De Angelis and the Mount Pleasant Bicentennial Committee prepared an original pamphlet briefly describing the town's history. The links that follow will lead you to sections of :

A SHORT HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT NEW YORK COMMEMORATING THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INCORPORATION OF THE TOWN. MARCH 7, 1988.

Mr. De Angelis cites the following as his major sources:

  • Pictoral History of Westchester County (Susan Cochran Swanson and Elizabeth Green Fuller)
  • A History of Mount Pleasant (Philip F. Horne)
  • All About Mount Pleasant (The League of Women Voters of Mount Pleasant)

Please note that Mr. De Angelis' history was written in 1988 and there have been changes within the township since that time. Most importantly, what he refers to as North Tarrytown was renamed Sleepy Hollow in 1996.
