Wayne Willis

wayne and tools

At the body shop, behind a sound system he invented and built himself, Wayne is master of ceremonies. In this role, he defines the atmosphere at the jams. He is the kind of person who opens it up to anybody, a regular says. He gives everybody a chance, whether it be country or bluegrass, he gives everybody a turn. He's not going to tell anybody no.

Wayne came to music in a unique way. He found an old archtop guitar in a car one day and made a bet with his friends at the shop: Whoever could learn three chords the fastest would win some money. That was it. Wayne learned the fastest and was suddenly a guitar player. And, since he was surrounded by country and bluegrass, that is the kind of music he played. When he was 25, he cut off a piece of his finger and switched to playing the Dobro and it's with the Dobro that Wayne has found his instrument.
