Lu Shan's Art Studio

My name is Lu Shan, I am a Chinese artist living in the US for the past 11 years. I was raised and educated in Shanxi Province, China. I graduated from Shanxi University, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province.

My paintings are about my life living under the shadow of my father, a member of the Communist Party; and my mother, who had mental illness. My environment growing up was one of always fighting.

My paintings also show my living a long time under the control of Mao Ze Dong and Communist dictatorship, the class struggle. My art reflects me, as an individual, how I suffered mentally the rape and castration of my soul from the political party and its "ism's". how as an individual, I felt I was beaten black and blue, and my life, my air was sqeezed out of me.

The paintings show individuals with their heads bowed, hands and legs crossed, showing fear, whipped and lashed, tied up, trussed and utterly weak and incapable of living.
