Split Brain (Logos)

This large-format accordion is housed in a coffin-like box: on the skin-like and wrinkled translucent paper is pulp-painted text on both front and back. The text considers the linear path to the acquisition of knowledge and how word order defines meaning. Interspersed between these pulp-painted lines are cut-outs and handwritten fragments from scientific publications by Joseph E. Bogen, concerning split-brain research which led him to posit the existence of a duality of mind with the corpus callosum functioning as the transfer point of high level information. Acetate pockets containing the cut-out pieces float on the inner cover containing further commentary.

"Logos" means "the word" in Latin.
