The half double crochet is halfway between a single crochet and a double crochet in height.
How to work a half double crochet stitch into a chain
Make a foundation chain one chain more than the number of half double crochet stitches called for.
- Yarn over the hook once.
- Insert the hook into the third chain from the hook (will count as the turning chain)(For repeat, insert into the next stitch).
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through the chain (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through all 3 loops (one half double crochet completed).
- Repeat steps 1 to 6 across to the end of the foundation chain.
How to work a half double crochet into a row of stitches
To begin the second row, turn your work. Chain two for the turning chain.
- Yarn over.
- Insert the hook from the front to the back under the top 2 loops of the next crochet stitch in the row below.
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through the chain (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over.
- Draw the yarn through all 3 loops (one half double crochet completed).
- Repeat steps 1 to 6 across to the end of the foundation chain.
